An absolutely stunning piece, designed by Susanna IC -- all I can say is wow.

Here is how she describes it:

"Ever since the first time I saw the traditional Estonian Water Lily lace I knew I wanted to design a special shawl based on this stitch. As faith would have it, I’ve had this gorgeous yarn in my stash for some time just waiting for the perfect project and I think that this intricate lace pattern and this special yarn complement each other very well.

"The shawl is worked in one piece starting with the cast on at the bottom edge of the lace panels followed by short rows that shape its elongated crescent form. A preparation row features small glass beads placed on every third stitch for additional interest and weight; however, this row is completely optional."

The original that is photographed here was done with Rowan Kid Silk Night, two balls for a total of about 500 yards. If you would like to add beads (and this is optional but oh-so-lovely) then you need simply 105 of the 8/0 beads and a very thin (0.6mm suggested) crochet hook to add them with.

Select from any yarn that appeals in our Lace Weight or Fingering Weight section. The Silk Cloud yarns and the Pura Bella Mohair Silk are very very similar to the original yarn used. Two hanks of either would be more than enough -- and would look amazing, especially with the bead embellishment.

I really love this design. It would work with so very many yarns to give so very many individual looks.
