This is a lovely shawl -- clean lines and stunning in its sophistication.

By Ambah O'Brien, I will let her tell you about her new Yemaya Shawl

Mix a special gradient skein with stripes and lace for the ultimate bohemian shawl experience. Yemaya is a generous asymmetrical triangular wrap with multiple wearing possibilities. While Yemaya is designed to show of a gradient yarn, this shawl will work beautifully teaming a speckle, variegated or semi solid with your two contrasting skeins.

The Yemaya lace is both charted and written. The lace requires concentration and will suit an intermediate knitter with some lace experience.

A lovely piece.

The Yarn and Colorways
We put together yarns as needed to create a shawl similar in size to the one Ambah knit, with a top edge measuring 118” / 300 cm , the bottom edge measuring about 110” / 280 cm and the bind off edge measuring about 45”/ 115 cm.

These are not the same yarns as Ambah used in her original piece.  You can see the ones in this kit in the inset photos on the top picture and again below that.  The other photos are of Ambah's shawl and are here to show the design -- use your imagination here.

Ambah recommends for this fingering weight (4-ply) yarn in the following amounts:
For the main color, one needs 382 yd / 349 m -- and note that Ambah suggests this yarn be a Gradient Yarn, for the first Contrast Color, 382 yd/ 349 m  and for the second contrast color, 382 yd/ 349 m.

So here is what we have put together:

****

For the Gradient MC Yarn, I thought it would look awesome with some rich colors, gradually changing through the shawl.  And we just got in some gorgeous Crazy Zauberball with its 459 yards (420m)/ 100 grams, made up of 75% virgin wool/ 25% nylon -- perfect!

The Crazy Zauberball is a marled, or two-color, plied yarn.

One colorway is Wolke in German, and translates as Cloud in English.  It is creams into pinks into lilacs and is just a dream.

The second colorway is Zintschnecke in German, which according to Google translates in English to Cinnamon Rolls!  It has warm browns and charcoal as well as rusty rose and deep magenta and probably a few colors I missed as well.  Yum!

*****

For the contrast colors we selected yarns in colors that would stand out against both of these colorways.

Both kits will include one skein of Herriot Fine from Juniper Moon Farm.  This is a 75% alpaca/ 25% nylon with 461 yards to its 100 gram skein.  The color is a delicious Cream, which will contrast well with both gradient yarns.

*****

The second contrast color for the Cloud colorway will be an Ella Rae Lace Merino (100% superwash merino with 460 yards/ 100g) that is a tonal mix of dark purple and lighter purple.  The hue is deeper than the lilac that is part of Cloud and so will work well with it.

The second contrast color for the Cinnamon Rolls will be in Aerie, Shalimar's 70% superwash merino/ 20% kid mohair/ 10% silk, that has 420 yards to each skein.  The colorway here is Weathered, a gently variegated tonal with soft brown and rosewood that contrasts beautifully with the other two yarns.   (Please note that this yarn makes Kit B a bit more expensive.  You will see the extra cost on the drop-down menu.)

*****

So to sum up:

Kit A will include one skein each of Clouds in Crazy Zauberball plus Cream in Herriot Fine and Dark Purple/Light Purple in Ella Rae Lace Merino

Kit B will include one skein each of Cinnamon Rolls, the Cream in Herriot Fine, and Weathered in Aerie.

Definitely delicious all around.

The Pattern

This kit will not automatically include the pattern.

We actually recommend getting this pattern directly as a PDF from Ambah via her Ravelry web page. This way your patterns are saved in your Ravelry library and you will automatically get any updates.  If this appeals, set the drop-down menu to "No Pattern Needed" and get it there.

Alternatively, if you would really like a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that.

We also can email the pattern to you via email (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and do so right before shipping your kit).  Your choice....
