I love love love love love this design by Kieran Foley (did I say that I love this?).  I found Hibiscus a most intriguing knit.

The stitches and techniques are not at all difficult though at times they require paying attention.  I found the entire process enthralling.  Plus the finished piece is stunning.

The Design

Here is how Kieran describes it:

Colorful inventive lace knitting inspired by exotic tropical blooms in botanical gardens.

The zigzags and clusters combine a variety of increases with stacked centered double decreases - a variation on Xandy Peters’ stacked decrease technique. The simple lace eyelet section (repeated throughout the shawl) is charted and the rest of the pattern is fully written out...

Easily customizable, it’s a great pattern for using up odds and ends of different yarns - you can mix and match the various elements in the pattern and have fun experimenting with color combinations.

The finished dimensions will be approximately 145cm/57in long by 47cm/18.5in wide.

The Yarn and Colorways

All of our balls here are variations of Zauberball.

Please note though: some of these colorways we have very limited numbers in stock.

Some of them would work beautifully together.  If you would like suggestions for mixing-and-matching, just let me know.

(Kieran's original shawl as knit using leftovers and bit and pieces all put together.)

******

1.  This long-color-run yarn is Zauberball 100, 100% superwash virigin wool with 437 yards per 100 gram ball.  The colorway is Fliederduft (translates in English to "lilac scented") and is a beautiful cool medley of blues and purples.  (Sorry, sold out.)

2.  This one is the original Zauberball, 75% superwash wool/ 25% nylon, with 459 yards per 100 gram ball.  The colorway is named Aldebaran, a new colorway which combines varying grays as well as rose light into dark.

(Aldebaran is the brightest star in the constellation Taurus. The word "aldebaran" is Arabic, and it means "the follower" because the star seems to follow the Hyades star cluster that forms the head of the bull).

3.  Again Zauberball, this colorway is named Schatten (translates as "shadow") and goes from a white-gray into medium gray into charcoal into almost black.

4.  This one is Zauberball Crazy, where two strands of the main ply are dyed individually and then twisted together to make for a very striking self-striping multi-colored pattern. The ball has 459 yards/ 100g.  The colorway is named Kleiner Fuchs, which translates to "Little Fox".  It is a very rich blend of colors, with gold, orange, and red primarily with also some greens and teals included.

5. Also in Zauberball Crazy is Charisma, a rich and dark beauty with blacks and magentas blending one into the next.
