This is new and pretty darn special!
Handdyed by Kimberly Perkins of Cat Mountain Fibers, each of these "skeins" are actually composed of five different yarns of varying textures, dyed to go with each other and to work together beautifully.
The ones we show on this web page are worsted weight Fusion 250s.
Here is what Kimberley writes:
Fusion 250 consists of 50 yards each of 5 different yarns with different textures and fiber contents that are skeined and dyed together for delicious effect. Different fibers take the dyes differently, so you have a tonal variation within each skein that works up beautifully into garments and accessories.
These sets come as two overall "types", with only one of the five skeins being different: texture or stellina. And honestly, the stellina is quite subtle. You can choose via the drop-down menu.
Five Textures with Stellina:
- 1. 56% Alpaca/44% Cotton
- 2. 89% Alpaca/11% Polyamide
- 3. 75% Merino Wool/20% Silk/5% Stellina
- 4. 80% Merino Wool/20% Bamboo
- 5. 100% Wool
Five Textures with Tweed
- 1. 56% Alpaca/44% Cotton
- 2. 89% Alpaca/11% Polyamide
- 3. 85% Merino Wool/15% NEP (Tweed)
- 4. 80% Merino Wool/20% Bamboo
- 5. 100% Wool
We brought in three colorways to start out.
Hummingbird has a number of colors, somewhat on the warm side. I see gold, butterscotch, mahogany, spring green, kelly green, and rich loam.
Spruce is a play on evergreen, some a bit darker, some slightly lighter.
Aurora Borealis has varying tones of royal purple and evergreen.
Kimberley offers quite a number of free patterns to go with her yarns. You can find them on Ravelry as well as on her website.
Here are a few I especially like with these particular Fusion Skeins (these links go to Ravelry):
Super Slouch Hat
Super Beanie
Sweetheart Cowl
