Jaw-droppingly beautiful!
Fabulous Feathers is a new creation by Kieran Foley that takes advantage of the rich colorways of Skacel's new Seniorita yarns (and Senior as well).
The pattern is available from two locations: Kieran's Ravelry page here and his personal website here, both allow you to get it directly from the designer.
There is also a German language version in Skacel's Knit The Cat.
We have put together some kits to knit this with.
The Design
Here is what Kieran writes:
Swirls of feathers and fans of clustered chevrons create this soft, light and versatile shawl.
Yarn and Colorways
He further says: Knit with 6mm/US10 needles using approximately 125g/782yds/715m of Schoppel Wolle Seniorita and Senior yarn, inspired by Dibadu.
The yarns are woolen-spun from the finest Patagonian sheep’s wool. Seniorita colors are dyed on a white base yarn and Senior colors are dyed on a mottled gray base yarn.
I used 2603 Merlot in the Senior yarn and the following colors of Seniorita:
2599 Rosenduft / Smell of Roses
2600 der Sommer wird rot / Summer is gonna be red
2604 Softpink / Soft Pink
2605 Abendstimmung / Evening Mood
2606 Grün ja Grün / Green, yes, green
2607 Sonnenstrahl / Sunbeam
2608 Möhre / Carrot
2613 Goldolive / Golden olive
2618 Purpurwolke / Purple Cloud
2636 Reif für die Insel / Ready for vacation
The color sequence is not detailed in the pattern - you can use the flat photo as a guide if you want a similar distribution, or have fun coming up with your own combinations. Make sure to include light and dark colors to emphasize the chevron interplay.
Senior and Seniorita are brightly colors yarns with 156 yards (143 meters) per 25g, made up of 100% merino.
We have for our kit only the first eight colorways listed above in the exact yarns he mentions. This will give you more than enough yardage for this piece (you will have 1,114 yards).
And let me repeat what Kieran says: Have fun coming up with your own combinations. :-)
(Note: Those last three colorways that we are not including as part of this kit are a slightly greenish gold, a purple, and a brown. If you would like, i have substiutes for those that are very close but not the exact ones. This kit contains the exact first eight he lists above. )
