Absolutely gorgeous!

We have offered this kit before though this time we offer a different yarn and a very different colorway.

The look will be rather forest-y instead of fiery.

The Design

As soon as I saw this beauty by Abbey Phelps I knew I had to get it in for our Earth Faire knitters.

Fires of Industry is part of her Hiraeth Casgliad Collection. As she writes:

Pronounced: HEER-eyeth Cas-glee-ahd. Hiraeth is a Welsh word which has no direct English translation. It means a homesickness for a home to which you cannot return, a home which maybe never was; the nostalgia, the yearning, the grief for the lost places of your past.

For those of who love the works of J.R.R Tolkien and other authors I think this word evokes the feelings we have when we are carried “home” by their words.

And Fires of Industry is particularly inspired by the words of Saruman in The Two Towers: "The world is changing…The old world will burn in the fires of industry. Forests will fall. A new order will rise."

Yarns and Colorway

The original piece was knit by Abbey using Silk Garden Sock, a sport weight yarn with 328 yards/ 100g, of 40% Wool, 25% Silk, 25% Nylon (polyamide), 10% Mohair.

This one pattern was written so that one could knit a scarf (needs 600 yards or two skeins), a shawl (900 yards) or a poncho (also 900 yards).

You can see the yarn we offer in today's kit in the inset photo on the bottom righthand corner of the top picture on this page and again below that.

Our kit is made up of Noro's Yukata, also a sport weight (of 50% silk + 25% wool + 25% nylon), with 787 yards (720m)/ 200g ball.

The kit will include one ball which will be enough to knit the scarf, which ends up as about 72" long x 7" wide.

Two kits will allow you to knit either the shawl or the poncho.

The colorway we offer is #21Onomichi, with long color runs of a few variations on green (I see lime and true green and some olive) along with variations of brown (ecru, sand, bark).

Beads

There are optional beads as part of this glorious design that will be included in each kit -- roughly 400 of size 6/0 beads to add quite a wonderful glow to the piece.

There are quite a few bead colors I like with this.  If you have a preference, then let me know. Otherwise, let me choose for you.

Pattern

About the pattern: it is not automatically part of this kit and the cost has not been factored into the base price:

If you would prefer getting the pattern as a PDF file in your Ravlery library, then go to Abbey's web page on Ravelry and get it there. Just make sure the drop-down menu below the top photo on this page is set to "No pattern needed".

If you would rather a printed pattern, then you also need to be sure to set the drop-down menu that way.

Similarly we can set this up as a pdf, saved in your account section on this website.

This is truly a beautiful piece! I am so delighted to be able to offer it.
