Another intriguing hat by Joan Rowe

This one uses the intarsia-in-the-round technique -- a great chance to learn something new on a smaller canvas.  And have a great hat at the end of it!

We offer a set of yarn to knit this with.  You will need to get the pattern directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Joan via her Ravelry web page.

The Design

Here is what she writes:

A colorful picture of life in the ocean, featuring octopus, seahorse, jellyfish, sea squirt, and assorted little fish and seaweeds.

This is an experienced level intarsia-in-the-round pattern, knitted back and forth in rows using w&t technique. It assumes that you are an experienced intarsia knitter and so no instructions are given for when to join in new colors, or lengths of yarn to use. In some areas you may need to use stranded colorwork technique.

The Yarn and Colorways

Bear in mind that this kit does not include the same yarn or colors that Joan used in her original. You can see what we offer in the inset photo on the bottom of the top photo and again below that.

For the hat itself you will get one ball of Dolly Baby in dusty blue.  Dolly Baby is from Laines du Nord and is made of extrafine merino wool with 254 yards/ 50g.

For the sea life, we will include one Unicorn Tail (from Madeline Tosh, 100% superwash merino with 52 yards/ 12g each) in each of the following colorways:

Citrus (orange family)

Lost in Trees (tonal greens)

Sugar Coat (cream)

Coquette Deus (rich wines)

Translation (sky blues)

Fatal Attraction (deep cool red family)

Onyx (black)

This should give you more than enough to play with!
