This is just a happy piece.  It is both knit and crocheted --- please read the designer's notes --- the body is crocheted and the face is knitted.

Our consists of two small skeins of worsted weight yarn from Manos del Uruguay (as described below) + plastic pony beads + safety eyes.

Please note!  The drop-down menu allows you to tell me the colorways of the yarns you would like. Make sure it is set to suit you before you check out.

The Pattern

The pattern should be gotten from the designer directly, either via Ravelry here or Etsy here or her website here

We have put together kits of yarn and beads and "eyes" for this.

The Design

Here is what the designer writes:

I like both Knitting AND Crocheting. I think the different stitches work for different projects.

In this case I like the crocheted body but preferred the knitted, smoother face. I know there are others out there that do both crafts, hoping you’ll like this pattern that incorporates both.

This cute Beaded Hedgie pattern is a combination of knit AND crochet, and consists of a crocheted body with beads (details of how to easily add the beads are part of the pattern), simple crocheted ears, and a knitted face (simple stockinette stitch -knit one row, purl one row) so you need to be able to do both techniques. There is simple seaming at the end. I include a link to a youtube video showing how to simply sew the ears on.

After making the first one, they are like potato chips, very addicting. I am making 16 of these for my grand-daughters class who will be reading a book about hedgehogs. I can knock out 6 or so a day and that is not even full-time crafting.

Yarn and Colorways

What is needed for these fun little creatures is worsted weight yarn -- about 14 yards for the body (crocheted) and 5 yards for the face (knit).

We brought in from Manos the Alegria Grande Bocados, each small skein giving you 50 yards in 75% merino superwash + 25% nylon.

These small skeins are discontinued and thus colorways were limited; we brought in what we could.

Choose two of the colors listed here for your project (if you plan on making a "family" then order multiple kits for many colorways).

A reminder: please set the drop-down menu labeled Choices to the color combination you would like.

Carmine (a rich deep red)

Fuchsia (a pinkish wine)

Spirulina (a yellow with a slight green tint)

Kohl (charcoal)

Tahiti (a greenish teal)

Teal (a bit darker)

Juanita (a tangerine marmalade)

Beads

The designer used 44 plastic beads that were 9mm x 6mm with a 4mm hole.  A mixed-color set of these will be included in your kit.

Your kit will also include a set of safety eyes

You'll have to provide your own black sharpie marker, fiberfill, hook and needles.  :-)
