A most unusual knit, which is what I've come to expect from Ursa Major Knits's Crissy.

Here is how she describes this De Mimsy-Porpington

De Mimsy-Porpington is a mesmerizing shawl that flows like liquid magic, creating stunning wave effects through its innovative modular construction.

This pattern showcases the genius of color-switching design, where each half of the wave emphasizes different yarns, creating a beautiful interplay that highlights both your yarn choices.

Get the pattern directly from the designer on her Ravelry page here.  What we offer is simply some great yarns to use to knit this in.

Yarns and Colorways

Crissy says this design has incredible diversitivity:

  • Any yarn weight - from delicate fingering to cozy chunky
  • 7 different sizes (XXS to XXL) - perfect fit for everyone
  • Two stunning variations - knit one large wave or two smaller ones for different length options

What we have put together are lighter fingering type yarns -- one the same as what she used and one different than what she used in her original.  You can see our choices in the inset photo on the top picture on this page.

1.  From Schoppel, Crazy Perlen in the colorway called Didgeridoo.

Based on their Crazy Zauberball colorways, this is a somewhat unusual put-up for yarn as each one is basically a 5 mini ball collection which isolates each color within the gradient so it can be used however, and whenever you’d like.

This colorway runs from a gold into pink into reds with the plies working together along the way to create new color combination.

Each mini ball contains approx. 88 yards so there is a total of 440 yards per 100 gram ring.  The fiber is 100% Virgin Merino.

2.  The contast yarn is from Juniper Moon Farm called Moonshine Fine30% Baby Alpaca+30% Wool+25% Nylon15% Silk, with 437 yards/ 100g.  Normally with that yardage per gram, it would be classified as a fingering weight.  This one knits just a little bit heavier, into a sport weight gauge, but for this design that would work well.

The colorway is #1005, Mustard, basically a golden tone that is just a bit muted.

Each kit will include one of each. This will allow you to make the smallest size.  For larger sizes, it would work to get multiple kits.
