Nim Teasdale is setting up what looks to be a glorious Mystery Knit Along (MKAL) that she has names Wisterious.
The Design
The shape is a wedge-constructed semi-circle that can be expanded into a larger-than-half-circle if desired. The size is variable, again depending on your preference and the amount of yarn you work with.
Here I quote Nim:
Wisterious is a semicircular shawl with flowing layers of texture and lace, designed as an MKAL, in 6 parts.
Expect chevrons, hearts, leaves, mesh, texture, beads, and some mini cables.
Sign up for and get the initial data here on her Ravelry page for this MKAL. What we offer is yarn and beads that you can use to knit this with.
Once you sign up, you will get introductory pages and on the following dates, you will receive the Clue to knit by:
Dates:
Part 1: Sep 21
Part 2: Sep 23
Part 3: Sep 27
Part 4: Oct 4
Part 5: Oct 11
Part 6: Oct 18
Yarn and Colorways
Nim writes that the yarn should be anywhere from lace to sport weight, in solid, gradient, or very gentle variegation/speckle/semi-solidity.
Our kits are made up of lace weight yarn from Freia Fibers, their Lace Merino Ball, dyed in long ombre color runs, gradually changing through the ball. The yarn is two-ply 100% US Merino Wool (Mulesing-free) and each ball will give you 712 yards (651m) / 150g.
As Nim writes that the yardage needed is very flexible is very flexible (the shawl can be bound off anywhere from row 162 - row 320 and beyond), the amount of yarn needed is also variable.
She recommends a minimum of 600m (656 yards) lace weight but writes that if you have more, you can use it all.
So one ball of the Freia Lace Ball, will be enough. If you wish to make a larger piece, then either get two kits or contact me for a special kit. As long as we have stock, I will be happy to accomodate requests.
We brought in two colorways, both light in color as I felt it important that the stitch work stand out well. They are what Tina (of Freia Fibers) calls Watercolor Ombres, "Each watercolor contains shades and hues within a theme color – putting the watercolor family in between a semi-solid and an ombré."
Pearl (soft pinks) (sorry, out of stock)
Lagoon (soft turquoise)
Beads
Here again I quote Nim:
Beads are an optional addition. As charted, there are up to 1720 beads, but if you don’t happen to need body armour, you can easily use less.
We will be including size 8/0 beads in each kit, approximately 2,000 beads. If you have a preference for bead color, tell me. Otherwise I will choose for you.
