A wonderful cowl pattern, perfect for travel knitting -- it is simple and a true delight to make.

Make sure to get your pattern directly from the designer, Andrea Mowry, via her Ravelry page here.  What we have put together are some striking yarns to create this beauty with.

The Design

Here is what Andrea writes:

My hope for this cowl is to inspire you to try experimenting with gauge to play with the size of the cowl, explore different color possibilities, hold a couple strands of yarn together, or even better - spin your own yarn!

The stitch pattern lends itself beautifully to a relaxing knit, but its unique construction makes it fun to knit again and again! This cowl is worked flat on the bias, and then seamed. You begin by increasing on both edges, then only one, and finally decreasing on one edge to create this unique shape!

Yarn and Colorways

As this is intended to be knit with any yarn weight one chooses, we selected some yarns that really sing to us.  These are not the same as what Andrea used in her original. You can see our yarns in the inset photo on the top picture on this page and again below that.

On yarn requirements, Andrea writes, "These are just approximations. Total yarn usage will depend on the yarn you use (fiber content, ply, etc.), your personal gauge, and any modifications you may make."

Woll-Schwestern is a new yarn from Skacel that is 100% merino, with 164 yards (150 meters) per 50g ball.

This colorway is Babette and has medium color runs of chartreuse, green, gold, lilac, and pink as the main colors I see.

There is a finished piece posted on Ravelry here that was knit using different colorways of Woll-Schewstern.  I thought you might like to see it. :-)

Moonshine Fine is from Juniper Moon Farm and is a delicious blend of 30% baby alpaca + 30% wool + 30% nylon + 15% silk (It feels amazing) with 437 yards/ 100g skein.

The colorway we love with Babette is called Grapeade and is a rich reddish-violet.

Note:

Andrea estimates that for DK weight yarn one would need a total of roughly 170g /430 yards to make any size up to the largest.

The Woll-Scwestern yarn we offer is classified as sport weight on Ravelry and DK weight on the Skacel website.  The Moonshine Fine is classified as sport weight though it has a loft to it that allows it to also be used as DK.

So that gets a bit confusing.  How much yarn do you need?

I want to be sure that you have enough so this kit will include two balls of Woll-Schwestern and one of Moonshine Fine. That gives you a total of 200g and 765 yards.

If you'd like to take a chance and get a leser amount of yarn, contact me.  I can easily set you up with a kit with only one ball of the Wool-Schwestern and that might suit you just fine.
