Aliseda was the first of our unique EarthFaire Club designs, created by Susanna IC in 2014.  It is a beautiful beaded shawl that was originally offered in Gradiance Colorways created by Keilly of The Unique Sheep (TUS).

Kelly retired at the end of 2022.  And I thought that was the end of this.

Then my son Jon had a brilliant idea.  He suggested offering some of our most popular designs in new colorways and new yarns.

Tah dah!  Read on for more data.

This is a stunning beaded shawl design by Susanna IC .

Susanna created a gorgeous shawl, constructed form the top down, starting with short rows, and forming a graceful crescent shape. There is a deep border with beaded lace.

The Design

Here is what Susanna had written about her inspiration and the design itself (I am omitting references to the original colorways here):

...Starting with fall as inspiration, I designed the lace to look like many different autumn leaves fluttering in the wind.

Remarkably, the lace is also reminiscent of growing flowers with tulip-like blossoms along the bottom edge...

Aliseda is constructed from the top down, starting with the short rows, which give the shawl its graceful crescent shape. The lace of the deep border is created with basic lace stitches, and beads are added throughout for wonderful drape and sparkle (475 6/0 4.00mm glass seed beads).

The New Yarn and Colorway

The yarn we offer now is from Wull Studios, dyed by Liz Capik.  The yarn itself is Wanderlust, 51% silk / 49% BFL wool, and each Jumbo cake has 659 yds (603 m) / 150 g (5.25 oz).

This is a perfect amount of yarn for this design as Susanna recommends 600 yards (549 m).

Here is what Liz writes about the yarn:

Wanderlust blends the absolute best of two worlds - softness and strength, luxury and durability.

Both BFL wool and silk are known for their luster, durability, and drape. The silk adds a gorgeous sheen, while the BFL brings a lovely crispness to the hand of the yarn and an almost inner glow.

BFL lacks the memory and tendency to pill of a merino wool, making it an excellent choice for almost any project (but worked to a slightly tighter gauge than a merino wool for larger projects, to prevent unwanted stretching).

The colorway is called A Little Fun, and again I quote Liz: Light seafoam green blends slowly into blue, into pink-leaning purple.

The colors blend one into the next in a beautifully smooth gradient.

The Beads

Each kit will include 6/0 beads -- at least 475 of them -- to make a wonderful addition to the whole.

If you have a preference on bead color, let me know.  Otherwise I will choose for you.

The Pattern

Note that the kit will not automatically include the pattern.

I know some knitters prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Susanna via her Ravelry web page. If you choose this option, set the drop-down menu to "No Pattern Needed" as you will not be getting it from us.

Alternatively, if you would prefer a printed copy, or you would like a pdf saved on our website, that option is also available.  Set the drop-down menu to your choice.

(Please note that this pattern is charted only.)

This is truly beautiful.
