This is a most unusual beaded shawl by Heidi Barrett.
Angel's Whimsy uses two different fingering weight yarns and a wonderful array of 8/0 beads. What makes it so unique? The beads are pre-threaded and placed on the lace in very specific ways -- right oriented and left oriented -- so that they can truly stand out and create a lovely design amidst the lace.
I'll let Heidi say more:
This pattern has a unique construction. The lace panel is knit first like scarf, then stitches are picked up along its length to finish the shawl.
Don’t worry if you don’t like picked up stitches or the ridge that they usually create on the wrong side of the work, this pattern has EASY to pick up stitches because of the stitch design and no ridge in the back!
The pattern can be knit with or without beads, and includes a photo tutorial for how to knit with strung on beads so that they sit on the left leg, right leg, or both legs of the stitch to create the beaded pattern.
Now doesn't that sound like fun?
All that is needed is approximately 400 yards each of the two fingering yarns (though it can be knit with 800 yards of one yarn if you prefer a solid shawl to the bi-color shawl) and approximately 1200 size 8 beads. (approximately 35 grams of quality beads).
And Heidi is always available for pattern assistance if you run into any problems in the knitting.
So go browse the fingering weight section of our website and find yarns that sing to you -- we have some new ones and some not-so-new ones, all high quality and lovely, if I do say so myself.
Here is a great opportunity to create a unique and lovely shawl -- and learn a bit in the process.
