This is a beauty. Really and absolutely.
Formerly published in the Twist Collective, this pattern is now available here. And we are delighted.
Here is how Sivia describes it:
"This top-down beaded lace shawlette has all the makings of a mythical knit. Three equal panels of beaded floral lace are separated by 'seams' in a cable arrow lace pattern. A third pattern creates the all-around wavy edge. The resulting shape is roughly three sides of a square."
Wow.
The pattern gives what you need to make a Petite or a Tall version of this shawlette. The measurements are as follows: Petite (Tall): 26 (37 ½)” / 66 (95) cm across widest point of lower back; 12 (16)” / 30.5 (40.5) cm long at center back; 14 (21)” / 35.5 (53.5) cm long at center diagonal. All measurements are after blocking.
Yardage required for the smaller version is about 470 yards of lace yarn and for the larger version about 1,125 yards.
You'll need size 8/0 beads, 330 for the smaller and 669 for the larger. Beads are placed with the crochet hook method so make sure you have one of those very thin crochet hooks, about 0.6mm size.
The lace patterns are presented in chart form only.
We show a number of photos of this shawl, close-ups and other views, so you can get a good idea of its beauty. The solid colors look stupendous -- the beads and the special lace work meld beautifully together, enhancing one to the next without either overwhelming the other.
The one below which is done in a variegated yarn was made from a unique handspun yarn, which is not available for sale as itself. It is there to show an example of how that type of yarn would look, though notice that the number of colors are judiciously limited in order not to be too "busy". The look is lovely, we agree. A similar look, it occurs to us, might also be achieved working with Unique Sheep's Gradiance colorways, or alternatively and perhaps more simply with two different colors of lace weight yarn (one for the border and one for the body).
Lovely lovely lovely!
The last photos below were sent to us recently by an Earth Faire customer who used Impressionist Sunrise in this beauty. I am in awe.
