A wonderful way to play with hats -- can't you see His and Hers with just a change of embellishments?
Catie describes it as a cap in two sizes that can be made plain or fancy.
Use DK Weight Yarn — 195 for the 21" size and 230 yards for the larger 23" one.
Figure on US 7 Knitting Needles, at least 12" long or size to obtain gauge which is 18 sts/26 rows = 4" in stockinette stitch.
Catie also used 135 (147) Beads for Beaded Cap, plus 48 Beads for Tassels -- you will want beads that fit onto DK weight yarn so go for 6/0s or 5/0s or the megatamas (either 4mm or 5mm) or even the 4x4 cubes for quite a unique look.
The beads are pre-threaded onto the yarn.
Quick and fun! Great gift knitting.
