Sivia Harding is pretty darn amazing!
She came up with this wonderful design to knit -- basically an i-cord design but done with an ingenious addition so that it is a simple knit and a beautiful creation.
She has put together both a necklace design and an earring design to match and we have worked with her to put together a kit for each so that you can make your own version of each.
Here is what she wrote:
"Simple I-cord becomes jewelry - with the magic of beads! A variation on I-cord makes the beads pop to the outside. Add a fabulous dangle at the back and voila!"
Pretty wonderful, yes?
This kit, the necklace, will contain a spool of Silk Serica or perhaps a mini-skein of laceweight handpainted silk from Liisu Yarns depending on the color which looks best with your beads (unless you specify that you'd prefer a metallic thread). Either is enough to make a sizable piece.
I found that one spool of the Silk Serica plus 20 grams of beads made an i-cord piece that was 19 inches and I still had plenty of thread left over. [If you want to make a longer necklace -- i.e. not a choker -- let me know before you order so we can work out how to get you more beads and more silk.]
We are offering these in familiar Bead Stew bead mixes (details of each on the Bead Stew Bracelets' web pages). And if you wish a special Custom mix of your own, that option is there too. However, if you don't tell us what you want, we will have to make a wild guess -- so make use of the "Comments" section as you check out if you have something in particular in mind.
And, for that added flourish, we will include 8/0 beads and either a flower dangle or a drop bead -- this will depend on the colorway which looks best with your bead mix.
So each kit will include the pattern, about 20 grams of Bead Stew bead mix, the silk thread, enough 8/0 beads and a flower or drop bead for the dangle, and a clasp.
If you have a definite preference for the clasp, let us know on the "Comments" section as you check out. Otherwise we will choose the clasp for you.
You will also need two double pointed needles, size 0 or whatever gives you the look you like. These aren't included in the kit.
This should be great fun, doncha think?
