I love hats. I think it has something to do with being able to be creative and then not have to repeat it. Don't ask me how many single socks (and mittens) I have around. But until the two-headed aliens land, hats are my mini-palette for trying out new and unique things.
That being said, this new one from Susan Pandorf is a beauty. Another in her Fellowship of the Ring Collection, it gets its inspiration from the character in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
"Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow, Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow..."
The hat features a fair isle band just above the ribbing and a nifty twisted stitch pattern on the top, that forms a medallion when viewed from above (see the photo below -- isn't that cool?)
Susan did her original in blues and yellows (natch) but of course, you can choose any fingering weight yarn that sings to you. You want 220 yards of the main color (in the photo here light blue), 80 yards of contrast color B (here it is navy) and 80 yards of color C (that's the yellow).
This one looks like tremendous fun!
