This Box Kite Scarf is a most intriguing design by Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton.

She originally created it using two Aran weight Noro yarns -- unfortunately we are unable to duplicate those yarns or colorways.  However we have found two other Aran weight Noro yarns that we think will make for strikingly lovely scarves.  Read on for more data....

Simply put, as described by the designer:  "This is a zigzag pattern with strategic bind-offs to create the openings. You can have the side border or leave it off, as you wish! Enjoy!"

I love how the flow of the pattern seems (to my eye) to create little creatures peeking out of the scarf.

Yarn and Colorways

Cornelia's original used two Noro yarns: Viola and Malvinas.  We chose two Noro yarns as well; one is Viola and the other is the classic Silk Garden.

Viola is 100% wool with 437 yards (400m) per 200g.  One "dragon ball" will be in each kit.

Silk Garden is made up of 40% silk + 45% mohair + 10% wool, with 110 yards/ 50g.  Three balls will be in each kit.

Cornelia's original piece used an almost solid "biscuit" colorway combined with a colorful one with the long color runs that Noro is famous for.  You can see our yarns in the inset photo in the first picture on this page and again below that.

For our kit, we offer these colorways:

#2 Kawagoe in Viola: dark and rich, mostly a deep rich royal purple with speckles and stretches of highlights including red and gold and pink.

#1 Omitama in Silk Garden: on a cream background there are many many soft pastel colors wound into the yarn.  I can see pinks, limes, yellows, teals, and violets.
