This is a really intriguing little knit!

By Paola Albergamo, her original U can't B replaced Cowl used a lace weight yarn held together with a mohair/silk blend and uses a simple technique to create designs.

We have put together kits using a merino/silk lace weight yarn with an alpaca/silk blend to allow you to make a most beautiful cowl.

Please be sure to get the pattern directly from the designer on her Ravelry page here. Our kits are yarn only!

The Design

Here is how Paola describes this sweet and quick knit:

A quick project worked in an easy technique that let you freely draw shapes on the knitted surface.

This cowl is part of a set inspired by a heart-shaped graffiti I saw some time ago. The writing inside the heart said: “U can’t B replaced”, and this resonated so much to me, because of a dear person who I lost many years ago that still cannot be replaced in my heart.

Yarn and Colorways

We put together kits using different yarns than what Paola used in her original.  You can see our kits as the inset photo on the upper right-hand corner of the top picture on this page and again below that.

Our Kit:

We chose Findley for the lace weight yarn, 50% wool + 50% silk, with 798 yards per 100g ball. The colorway is Cabernet, a deep wine.

And instead of a mohair/silk we have Seta Suri Degrade from Lana Grossa, 69% Suri Alpaca (the finest alpaca; used to be only allowed for royalty) + 31% silk.  This is wonderful as it gives a very similar look to mohair/silk but without the itchiness that mohair can impart.  There are 464 yards per 50g cake.

The colorway is called Rose and has gradual changes from deep magenta into rose pink into blush and back again.
