A wonderful recipe for creating your own Wearable Art!

Those of us who enjoy playing with colors within certain loose parameters -- here is your muse!

I discovered Jane Thornley's designs by accident and am thoroughly delighted. Her patterns encourage you to go stash diving (a new sport?) and find wondrous yarns to have an amazingly joyful time with. If you want a pattern that holds your hand, do not go here. But if you love designs that guide you along a path but allow you to choose your own direction and truly create, this is for you.

This pattern is 14 pages of wonderful description.

Now I quote Jane:

"Brighten up your winter! Make toasty beautiful in this cowled capelet that feels like a glorious hug. Designed to be worn over a jacket or a coat (even bare arms), here’s a design as practical as it is gorgeous. Three versions provide multiple options: a hooded necklet for collar-like warmth, a hooded capelet as defense against winter’s bluster or a cowled capelet to add drama to even the biggest chill.

"View 1 is knit on size 11 US/ 8mm circular needles while views 2&3 use size 13 US/9mm needles. All views suggest a mix of angora, mohair, silk and wool, though most worsted-weight or sport yarns doubled work for this design. Choose rich coppery reds, as in versions 1 & 3, version 2’s tapestry meld of purples, olives and teal or your own color scheme. My yarn forage list suggests variations. Seed stitch, knit and purl with one row of yarnover along the bottom edge are the only stitches used. Color Photo Maps help guide color blends.

"Skill level: intermediate beginner."

The photo to the right shows all three versions. The cowled capelet (view 1) is the top left one, the hooded capelet (view 2) is the top right picture, and the hooded necklet (view 3)is the one on the bottom row in the middle.

Gorgeous, no?

Figure on a total of about 822 yards/ 400 grams for View 1, about 830 yards/ 415 grams for View 2, and about 150 yards/ 50 grams for View 3. These are very rough estimates and may change based on your yarn choices but are here to give you a general idea.

Choose between a hard copy (printed and mailed) or a PDF via the drop-down menu above.

The printed copy is more expensive to cover both shipping fees and printing costs (the pattern is 16 pages long).

I love it!
