Dreaming of Summer by Annemarie Wright is a gorgeous beaded shawl that can be knit in either lace weight or fingering weight yarn.  We put together kits in lace weight yarns from Malabrigo and lots and lots of beads!

Please get your pattern directly from the designer on her Ravelry page here.  What we offer is simply yarn plus beads to knit this beauty with.

The Design

Here is what Annemarie writes:

This pattern is a painting of a peaceful, lazy afternoon at the water’s edge beneath the willow leaves watching the dragonflies flit across the lilly pads and blossoms.

I would recommend size US size 2 needles with lace. You may knit it with beads, with different beads for different elements, or without beads.

The pattern is a little challenging in places. Just make sure you are counting stitches to keep on track, remember to breath, and ask for help if you need. When I want back to knit my 3rd one, I also learned to trust the counts and do what the charts were telling me to do (as long as your count is correct).

This pattern is also nice as you can extend the border as much as you want. The Border has an increase structure built in, and you can just keep going till you snare the yarn chicken. (It also has a contrast at the border where you could change to another yarn to complete the shawl.

Yarn and Colorways

We had selected yarn from Malabrigo, called Lace. Each skein is made of 100% baby merino wool and has 470 yards/ 50g.

Our new Kit (Kit II) has two different colorways:

Sadiduria is a blend of deep purples, a tonal melody.

Cian is an almost-solid of rich turuqoise.

You can choose to get two skeins of Sadiduria and one of Cian or two Cian and one of Sadiduria.  Set the drop-down menu above to your preference.

You can see the yarn in this kit on the upper righthand corner of the top photo of this page (which shows both color combos) and again below that. The other photos show Annemarie's original shawls, shown with her permission.

The Beads

Though beads are optional, we include them in each kit.

There are a lot of beads to this shawl, forming an integral part of the design.

The total number comes to 992 beads. With lace weight yarn we prefer size 8/0's.

Annemarie writes that one can use all one color/shape of bead or use different beads for the different elements.

We offer the choice in the drop-down menu above for getting all one color/type of bead (about 1,000 size 8/0s) or a mix of colors (possibly different shapes as well), different for each design element.

If you have an idea of what colors you want, tell me.  Otherwise I will choose for you.

Here is a listing of what is to be used with which design feature:

Beginning – 5

Dragonfly eyes – 10

Grass – 504

Leaves – 315

Dragonfly tails – 15

Waterlily – 30

Edge of Shawl – 113

Note for those whol prefer the 7 different beads: We will not necessarily give you green beads for the leaves and the grass. Our selection will be beads that look good with the yarn colors and with each other.  if you prefer greens for those aspects, let me know.

So each kit will include at least 250g of size 8/0 beads, your choice of either all one color or different ones for the parts of the shawl.
