Again, we are able to offer a beautifully dyed lace weight yarn by Liz Capik.

She is the amazing dyer who earlier had created Apple Tree Knits.  She recently started Wull Studios and the story behind the change is fascinating and well worth reading here.

This kit is for the strikingly lovely beaded Dreaming of Winter Lace Shawl by Annemarie Wright

More details below....

Please be sure to get the pattern itself from the designer on her Ravelry page here What we offer for this kit is a cake of Liz's delicious yarn.

The Design

Here is what Annemarie writes:

This pattern is a painting of peace and stillness captured for a moment, through the snow and pine tree theme....

‘Stillness’

Encased alone in a world of white
Having no beginning, and no end,
I sit in silent solitude, removed.
The mountains are erased as if
They never stood, rock supporting
Rock, rising to tower over fields
Barren of harvest, buried beneath
A shroud of untouched virgin snow.
Trees stand raising rigid, frosted
Fingers in supplication towards
The frozen sky, devoid of color.
Quietness settles deeper, removing
Life’s urgent sounds, and stillness
Seeps slowly into my silenced soul.
A solitary hawk swoops in, downy
White wings softly caressing air
To fold--she settles upon a branch,
Completing this moment of peace.

-A. Wright

The Yarn and Colorway

Our kits do not offer the same yarn that the designer used for her original shawl.  You can see ours in the inset photo on the top righthand corner of the first picture on this page and then again below that.

I highly recommend taking a look at the Project Pages for this shawl (link is via Ravelry). The other photos really show the glory of this piece.

The yarn we offer for this kit is a new one for Liz, one she called Meadow Lace.  It is made up of 65% silk + 35% linen and has 975 yards/ 150g ball.  She calls this her Jumbo ball of lace weight.

It has been "lovingly hand dyed in NJ, USA with 100% GOTS certified, low-impact dyes."

The colorway is called First Frost Gradient and is a gradient with gradually changing colorways moving from a deep teal, lightening into a turquoise and then finally a lovely cream.  (Or vice versa, as some balls are wound in the opposite direction.)

Notes:

From Annemarie:

Yardage will vary based on personal knitting gauge and needle size. Most likely lace weight you will need a minimum of 800m (875yds); testers used 784m (857yds) to 824m (901yds). ...

The pattern is a little challenging in places. Just make sure you are counting stitches to keep on track, remember to breathe, and ask for help if you need.

Beads

The beads are optional.  Again I quote Annemarie:

Knit it with beads, with different beads for different elements, or without beads; In the pattern the bead usage is broken down by elements so you may choose easily and know how many beads you need.

She recommends that for lace weight yarn you use size 8/0 beads.  Directions are given within the pattern.

Annemarie also suggests that you use all one type/color of bead or use different colors for different elements.

Here is how beads are used as part of the design:
Initial beaded spots – 11 beads
Beaded cable elements – 122 beads
Pine cones - 65 beads
Border beaded increases – 200 beads
Border diamond – 60 beads (10 accent)

We offer the option (via the drop-down menu above) of getting a kit with one color of 8/0s or 5 colors, reflecting the color of the yarn and the elements the bead represents.

The 5-color version is a bit more expensive as it requires more time.  This is reflected via the drop-down menu.

If you have color preferences, tell me; otherwise I will choose for you.
