The Design

Here is what Nim writes about Evoluta:

A semicircular lace shawl on the theme of change as a positive necessity, with flowing and evolving layers of lace and just enough texture to be interesting.

The Yarn and Colorway

We offer a different yarn than what Nim originally knit her piece in.  You can see ours in the inset photo on the top picture and again below that.

Nim suggests yarns ranging from lace to fingering, in a gradient, solid, or gentle semi-solid, and preferably a yarn that will hold a block well, and with 650 - 1600 yards (594 - 1463 m).

She also writes: The shawl is designed with one main ending point, and a series of extensions after that point (to avoid potential yarn wastage :).

For a smaller shawl, you can skip a 40 row section and jump ahead to the edge.

Our yarn is from Freia, the lovely Lace Ball with gradually changing colors. Each balls gives 712 yards/ 651m per 75g of 100% merino.

This light-as-air, 2-ply, 100% merino plumps up beautifully after blocking, featuring a superior stitch definition and a sumptuous drape, making it perfect for lacy shawls and scarves.

You should have enough yarn in one of these balls for the main ending point. Lace weight yarn tends to go pretty far; one test knitter knit the largest possible size with about 720 yards though hers was cobweb weight.

The teal sample you see on this page was knit in a light fingering/ heavy lace weight yarn using 645 yards; the other one used about 800 yards.

We brought in two colorways for you to choose between:

Blue Velvet runs from rich royal purple into sparkling turquoise (or vice verse depending on how the ball is wound).

Orchid runs from a pale icy pink into a rosy pink into red-violet (or vice versa again).

Beads

Beads are marked on the charts. Bead placement isn’t explicitly included in the written pattern, however there are notes on how to incorporate them if you wish to. (222 beads per wedge +16 beside the border, or 904 for 4 wedges.)

We will include size 8/0 beads as work well for lace weight.  So each kit will include about 25g of size 8/0 beads, which will give you roughly 1,000 beads.

If you have a preference on bead color tell me via the Comments section as you check out.  Otherwise I will choose for you.

And if you really would prefer larger 6/0 beads, email me and I will set up a special kit for you.

The Pattern

Note that the kit will not automatically include the pattern.  The price of the pattern has not been factored into the cost you see here.

I know some knitters prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Nim via her Ravelry web page. If you decide to go that route, make sure the drop-down menu is set to "No Pattern Needed."

If you want the pattern in your Ravelry library then please get it directly from Nim as noted above.

Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, then the "Pattern" drop-down menu should be set to that.

We also can set up the pattern so it is saved on this our website as a pdf for your use.  That is the other option via the drop-down menu.
