A beautiful crochet design by LilyGo, Fair & Square plays with beads on a vibrant crescent shaped shawl.

Let me quote Lily here:

Fair and Square is a crescent shape shawl, worked from side to side. The border is worked back and forth along the edges once the main body is complete. You can use 1 color for the whole shawl, or 2 colors for the body and the border.

The crescent shape makes this shawl very versatile and easy to wear.

This shawl is designed with plenty of beads all over the shawl (but if beads are not for you, then you can omit them all together).

As with all my other patterns, this pattern comes with charts and row-by-row written direction in US crochet terms. You can work entirely from the written direction or from the charts alone.

Well, of course we are going to include beads!  And our kits include two colors. Read on for more data.

Yarn and Colorways

Our yarns are not the same ones that Lily used in her original piece. You can see ours in the inset photo on the top picture and again below that.

*****

We have mirrored to some degree the colors that Lily used in her original.

A.  From Urth, this skein is one of their Harvest Fingering yarns, of 100% extrafine superwash merino and dyed by and using natural dyes.  Each skein has 435 yards (400m).

The colorway is Buckthorn, a vibrant goldenrod --- reminiscent of a field of sunflowers.

B.  From Madeline Tosh, TML+Copper is 90% superwash merino + 8% acrylic+2% stellina (soft sparkly threads that are vaguely copper-ish). There are 420 yards (384m) per skein.

The colorway is called Leopard and is an almost-solid tonal blend of grays. The copper-y threads lend a slight brown tone to the overall look.

For the size Extra Small (wingspan 50" x 19"length at center back) one would need one skein of Yarn A and one of Yarn B.  That is what we offer for this kit.

If you would rather have the Small size (67" x 21"), then two skeins of Yarn A is needed plus one of Yarn B.  Let me know and I will set you up with a special kit as long as we have stock. And if you would like an even larger shawl, contact me and if we have enough stock I can work with you on that too.

Beads

What is needed for this size Extra Small shawl is size 6/0 beads as follows:

Beads that contrast with yarn A: 188
Beads contrast with yarn B: 260

For the beads that contrast with yarn A, we will give you more than is needed of one of our golden beads.

For the beads that contrast with yarn B, it will be either a gray, a charcoal or a black, again with extra beads included

The Pattern

Note that the kit will not automatically include the pattern.

1. I know some knitters might prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Lily via her Ravelry web page. This is the choice that will get you a copy in your Ravelry library. If you decide to get it this way, the drop-down menu should be set to No Pattern Needed as you will not be getting it from us.

2. If you would like a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that. (There are 17 pages in total.)

3. We also can set you up with a PDF that will be stored under your Account setting on this our EarthFaire website.
