The Design

Here is what Emily writes:

Looping cable chains, separated by sections of lacy mesh, spiral across the Gilded Chains shawl.

This project uses straightforward techniques to create a sophisticated shawl packed with texture and pizzazz.

This asymmetrical triangular shawl is knit on the bias from one tip to the opposite edge. The shawl grows one stitch every two rows along the top edge. The 36-stitch wide lace and cable block repeats across each row to create all-over texture.

Yarn and Colorway

We do not offer in our kits the same yarn that Emily used in her original.  You can see our yarn in the inset photo on the top picture on this page and again below that.

The yarn in our kits is from Juniper Moon, their Herriot Fine, 75% baby alpaca + 25% nylon and with 461 yards/ 100g.

To quote the Juniper Moon Folks, "Soft enough for a sweater, but durable enough for socks. Great for shawls, too! A touch of nylon gives this Baby Alpaca yarn extra strength. An excellent choice when you want to knit or crochet warm while still lightweight sweaters. "

Our kit: This colorway is #2063 Midnight, a deep rich navy.

As the design as written requires 640 yds / 585 m of fingering or sport weight yarn, two skeins will be in your kit.

Beads

Yes, the beads are optional but we will be including them in each kit.

Emily suggests a choice of 70 g of 6/0 seed beads for beading all the chains or 25 g for beading only one cable chain (as seen in these photos).

Our kits will automatically include 25g of 6/0 beads.  If you would like the larger number, their is that option via the drop-down menu above.

If you have a preference on bead color, tell me.  Otherwise I will choose for you.
