Lovely!
This is a lovely shawl by Barbara Benson that is perfect for adorning shoulders braving Spring breezes.
Here is how Barbara describes it:
Elegance can be based in simplicity and that is the basis for this shawl fit for Royalty. Irulan is the Princess daughter of House Corrino in the Frank Herbert Dune books and the namesake for this shawl. A mixture of texture and lace...
With large enough areas of solid knitting to show off the beauty of both hand-dyed tonal and lightly variegated yarns, the lace increases towards the bottom to produce a decidedly feminine finish. Frequently switching between garter & stockinette provides an added depth of interest to the overall pattern.
Instructions are provided in entirely written and a combination of written & charts. The general consensus among my testers is that the shawl requires an Intermediate skill level and I have to agree with them. The shawl starts out relatively simple but gets more complex as the percentage of lace increases.
Instructions are provided entirely written but include extensive charts for the chart fans.
The original yarn that Barbara used for this lovely piece was one skein of Sunshine Yarns UltraLuxe Light, a fingering weight yarn made up of 75% Merino/15% Cashmere/10% Silk and with 420 yards to 100 gram skeins.
Note that this web page offers a hard copy of the pattern.
Really a lovely knit and great to wear as well!
