A very neat idea!
Garter stripes in a mixture of yarns stack up, turn corners, and perform miter stunts to take this shawl into the wild blue yonder. A reverse stockinette roll graces the upper edge, while easy crochet chain loops dance around the perimeter.
A variety of yarns were used in the sample, primarily double knitting weight wool. Go with what appeals to you --- a great opportunity to mix yarns that look great together and beg to be knitted.
The original used 300 yards of the main color (bright blue), 180 yards of a variegated, 120 yards of a dark purple, 200 yards of a light blue boucle, 50 yards of plum, 120 yards of dark green and 50 yards of rust.
Whew! What is that expression -- "your mileage may vary"?
The gauge used in this one was 12 stitches and 24 rows to 10 cm (4") -- the DK wool gauge on the ball band read 22 sts = 10 cm. It is knit at a loosened gauge in this project to give the sahwl more drape.
Size: Top edge is 70" long, shawl is 35" deep at center.
Level: Intermediate
Fun!
