Momomi is a fascinating knit by Ute Nawratil. Tremendous color fun!

Design
Here is how Ute describes this wrap:
The name says it all: Momomi stands for modular mosaic mix.
The shawl can be knitted in two different sizes.
It consists of five individual pieces (three in the small version), which are either connected with three needle bind off or continued directly by picking up stitches. The individual parts and the different patterns ensure that you won’t be bored.
Yarn and Colorways
Ute recommends two yarns in fingering weight (approx. 400 m / 100 g), which create a good contrast. It adds to the effect if one of them is a gradient yarn.
Our yarns are not the same as what Ute used in her original piece. You can see our selections in the inset photo on the top picture on this page and again below that.
For both of our kits described below we selected Amitola as our Color A (gradient yarn) -- the colors have long color runs and the yarn is a lovely 80% wool + 20% silk (273 yards/ 250m per 50g ball).
4 balls will be in each kit. This will give you 1,000m as compared to the 836m Ute needed for her large shawl.
Kit #1:
A: Amitola in Tangerine Dreams, a lovely combo of tropical colors inlcuding pink, fuchsia, tangerine (of course) and teal.
B: Juniper Moon Farm's Herriot Fine, 75% alpaca + 25% nylon, 459 yards/ 420m per 100g skein. The colorway is Calypso a rich deep turquoise.
Three skeins will be in each kit. Ute lists 882m for her large shawl; this will give you 1,260m. If you would feel you would be fine with one less skein (2 skeins will give you 840m), just let me know and I'll set you up with the slightly smaller kit.

Kit #2:
A: Amitola in Starry Night. Here I see mostly yellow, eggplant, indigo, lime, emerald and teal. 4 balls per kit
B: Urth Yarns' Harvest, 100% superwash extrafine Merino, 435 yards/ 400m per 100g skein. The colorway is Burkthorn, a deep golden butterscotch.
Three skeins will be in each kit. Again, to compare to the 882m that Ute used for her large shawl: this will give you 1,200m. If you would feel you would be fine with one less skein (in which case, 2 x 400m = 800m) just let me know and I'll set you up with the slightly smaller kit.
Our kits will give you enough fingering weight yarn to make the larger version.
I queried Ute about the smaller size and the amount of yarn needed. Her thoughts were that the two small stripes don't use that much yarn, maybe 12% to 15% of the total so knitting the small doesn't save that much yarn.
One of her test knitters knit the small version. You can see her creation here. (And use the translation tool if you need in order to read her comments. )
Regardless, if you would like to get a smaller kit, do contact us and we will work out the math with you and if need be, set you up with a special web page.
