I've enjoyed this design for a long time and finally decided we simply have to get it to offer here!

I love modular knitting and this scarf and/or shawl is simply a perfect use of that technique. The looks is just lovely and the making of it is a joy.

Ilga describes it thusly: "Using a multi-directional, modular approach, this piece is worked from the centre diamond outwards, ending in a decorative diamond motif at each end.

"The two-colour striping is enhanced by the use of a yarn with long, gradual colour changes. Detailed instructions for how to work with this yarn to create the two-colour effect are given in the pattern.

'Directions are included for two versions of this design: as a scarf and as a shawl."

Now the shawl sample shown above is knit with Kauni Effektgarn, 100% wool and while it is lovely to look out, I find I don't care for the feel of that yarn. And so let me suggest that you might like to consider Poems, Poems Silk, or JojoLand's Rhythm as great substitutes.

Ilga writes that you want sport weight or double knitting self-striping yarn in the following amounts:

Color A: 215 m./235 yds. (500 m./547 yds.)

Color B: 185 m./202 yds. (450 m./492 yds.)

Note that you might need a bit extra yardage if you use either of the Poems yarns as they are a bit heavier than dk weight. The Rhythm should be a more exact substitute. But a scarf or a shawl is very flexible as far as gauge and size go, and I recommend going for a yarn that sings to you.

And figure on extra yarn for the tassels if you want them.

This pattern can also be knit using solid colors of yarn, of course, using two or more colors.

The scarf version will end up 140 cm./55 in. long and 23 cm./9 in. wide, while the shawl will be196 cm./77 in. long and 33 cm./13 in. wide (minus tassels).,p. Ilga rates this pattern as good for an Advanced Intermediate Knitter.

Quite a marvelous adventure -- let your knitting take you to exotic Morocco and revel in the beauty!
