Paola Albergamo is one of my favorite designers and here is her new Mosacioscope.
The pattern itself should be gotten directly from the designer. She has it on her Ravelry page here. What we offer is some gorgeous yarn to knit it in. Note though that these are not the same yarns as what she used for her original. Read on for more data...
The Design
Here is what Paola writes:
Mosaicoscope is a mosaic shawl worked “on the bias” creating the illusion of reflected shapes inside a kaleidoscope.
Mosaic Colorwork is the easiest way to achieve stunning results just slipping a stitch here and there and managing only one color at a time.
Here this technique plays with increases and decreases strategically placed to create peaks and valleys and to trick the eye with diagonal lines that actually don’t exist.
Yarn and Colorways
Paola writes: Choose two yarn colors with a good contrast between them. For the best result pick a solid or tonal CC and a more variegated or speckled MC.
You can see the yarns we have selected for these kits in the inset photo on the top picture on this page and again below that.
The pattern allows you to choose a 6, 7, or 8 chevron shawl in either a short (21.5") or a long (26") height.
Paola writes that the number of chevrons does not affect the width or height of the shawl but makes for a more or less enveloping shape.
We have two kits, either of which give you enough yarn to make the 6 chevron version of this shawl in either heights.
If you would like to a 7 or an 8 chevron shawl, you would be best off with two kits (you might be able to do a 7-chevron shape in the shorter length with one kit but it would be tight).
Kit A (one skein each):
MC: from Malabrigo in their Mechita (100% superwash merino,420 yards/100g): Moon Trio Full. This is a speckled beauty on a cream brackground. The speckles include red and blue and gold primarily.
CC: Also Mechita, this time in the tonal Under The Sea with variations of blues, capri blue deep into a light almost turquoise.
Kit B (one skein each):
MC: From Urth, their Uneek Fingering (100% superwash extrafine merino with 435 yards/100g) in the colorway simply numbered as #3029. This is a self-striping yarn with medium long color runs. The colorways are tonal variations of gold as well as purples and violets.
Take a look at this project using a very similar yarn.
CC: Araucania's Huasco Sock Kettle Dyes ((75% superwash merino + 25% nylon with 439 yards/100g) in a somewhat tonal almost-solid play on black in Blacksmith.
Note: Kit B is slightly higher in cost; the drop-down menu shows this.
