This webpage features the yarn as described below, one skein at a time.  If you are interested in the patterns we mention, you will need to purchase multiple skeins.  More data follows...

Hakone from Noro is a bulky weight yarn -- discontinued, alas, though we have some colorways in stock.  The yarn is 100% wool with 109 yards (100 meters) per 100g skein.

This is a plied yarn with long color runs.  This particular colorway, #10,  is called Victorian Memoir and has a glorious range of happy sprintime colors.  I see violet and gold and teal and violet as the predominant hues.

Sometimes it is great to have a moderately simple pattern to knit in a design that still is intriguing enough to keep one's interest.

Below are two pattern suggestions to go with this yarn -- interestingly both of these pieces were originally knit using Mochi Chunky. This yarn is no longer available but both fiber-wise, weight-wise, and yardage-wise, it matches with the Hakone.

The major difference between Mochi Chunky and Hakone is that Hakone is plied, with each ply dyed a different color whereas the Mochi Chunky was a singles yarn.

Stripes Are Boring (by Abbey Phelps of Blackberry Knits) is one of these -- a marvelous play on short rows. Quite portable (well, there are no beads to get lost for one thing) and sure to keep you involved in the process. Not to mention a fantastic finished piece.

It would require two skeins at least of this yarn.

I wrote this pattern because, well, stripes are boring. Using short rows you will create a “landscape” and add interest to an otherwise plain stockinette pattern.

This pattern gives straight forward line by line instructions that will teach you this method. By the time you are done with this easy wrap you will know how to modify it to make what ever project you want.

Another idea is the Spoke Scarf by Cornelia Hamilton which would require three skeins.

This scarf is worked in my new Geometric Openwork™ technique which creates a lacy airiness which showcases the loveliness of the Poems Chunky!!

One of the great things about this pattern is it can be used in a range of yarn weights, with thinner yarns making the scarf narrower. Try it out on different yarns you have at home!!
