*****

An absolutely gorgeous design by Nim Teasdale combined with a stunning gradiently dyed set of yarns by Laura of The Unique Sheep.  Read on for more data.

The Design

Here is what Nim writes:

Nucifera is an adaptation of a small doily by the amazing Herbert Niebling, that I’ve modified and expanded into a chart that can be repeated to make a shawl of any size.

It also offers a variation of the original motif that can be substituted at will, or used as an edging variation (as pictured). Both charts can be worked to any size, or until the yarn runs out.

The design can be worked entirely from the written pattern, or from charts with notes.

The design suits any yardage of lace to sport weight yarn, of solid, semi solid, subtle speckle, or gradient colouring. (Choose needles to suit your yarn & gauge preference.)

The original doily had a number rather than a name, so I have named this version after the Latin word for nut-bearing, as the motif reminds me of cocoa pods, and chocolate happens to be dear to my heart. :)

Yarn and Colorway

The yarn is from The Unique Sheep, what Laura calls Diamond Luxe, an 80/20 blend of superwash merino + silk.

It is dyed in 8 mini-skeins, each with 90 yards/ 20g so you will have a total of 720 yards gradually changing as you knit.

This colorway is called Eleanora and goes from rich blues into violets.  Yum!

One set makes up each kit.

The Pattern

Note also that the kit will not automatically include the pattern.

You can get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Nim via her Ravelry web page. In this case set the drop-down menu to "No Pattern Needed" as you won't be getting the pattern from us, instead getting the pattern via Ravelry and Nim.  This will ensure that you receive any and all updates as well.

Of course, if you would prefer a printed copy, we can do that.  In that case, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that.

You can also get this as a PDF file. (The pattern will not be saved in your Ravelry library but we'll make it available via earthfaire.com if you choose this option.)
