A whimsical scarf design that is sure to make you smile!  This Owls in the Forest Scarf is part of a series of marvelous patterns by Marsha White.

*****

Here is how the designer describes this piece:

In this stitch design, mirrored cables are framed in a trellis of mirrored cables. The pattern reminded me of owls looking out from ‘tree holes’, and the addition of beads gives them glimmering eyes. (approx. 200 beads in all)

Cabled ‘tree trunks’ form the ending scarf borders, leading up to the V-shaped cabled trellis. The scarf borders continue with ‘tree-trunks’ running up the sides, and merging in and out of the edges of the trellis cables.

In order to mirror the design for both halves of the scarf, the scarf starts with a provisional cast-on, and is knit from the middle out to the ending borders.

Yarn and Colorway

Unfortunately the specific yarn that Marsha used for her original is not available to us. You can see what we offer in the inset photo on the right-hand side of the top photo on this page and again below that.

Marsha had used a fingering weight yarn.  Instead we have substituted Noro's Silk Garden Sock Solo which is closer to sport weight.  However, as this is a scarf, the larger gauge will simply mean a bit wider piece to snuggle up in (Marsha's original was 7" x 55", having used roughly 555 yards total).

This is a 40% Wool + 24% Silk + 25% Nylon + 10% Mohair yarn, with 328 yards per 100g skein.

Each kit will include two skeins, giving you 660 yards.

This Noro yarn blooms beautifully upon washing.

The colorway is #13, and is a medium teal with speckles of hidden gems.  I see some pink, yellow, orange, lime -- and there are likely a few others I've missed.  Subtle but a marvelous highlight.

Beads

Marsha recommends 200 glass seed beads size 6/0 and we will include that many plus a few more in each kit.

If you have a thought on what color bead you want, tell me.  Otherwise I will choose for you, a color that would work as "eyes" for these sweet little owls.

The Pattern

Note also that the kit will not automatically include the pattern and the cost of the pattern has not been figured into the cost of the kit.

I know some knitters prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Marsha via her Ravelry web page. In that case, make sure the drop-down menu is set to "No Pattern Needed" as you won't be purchasing it from us.

Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, then the "Pattern" drop-down menu should be set to that.

We also offer the pattern as a PDF, stored here on our website.
