The Design

Here is what Carmen writes:

This is a fast and fun hat that we can practice a little bit of bead knitting, bobble making, embroidery or you can even place a nice button and/or a larger bead in the center of each flower.

Don’t be afraid of the embroidery, with the help of the yarn this is so simple and frankly it steal the show and you

The instructions are intended to accomplish a 20” (51.cm) wide and 10.5” (27cm) height beanie.

Instructions are included to:

knit with beads

embroider two type of flowers.

perform the pop corn stitch

Yarn and Colorways

What is needed is approximately 191 yards (175m) for the main color, about 64 yards (58m) of the contrast color and about 32 yards (29m) in assorted yarn colors to embroider the flowers.

Our yarn is not the same as what the designer used for her original hat though it follows her prescription for sport weight yarn. You can see our yarns in the inset photo on the bottom of the first picture on this page and again below that.  Other photos of her original hat are used with her permission, to better show the design.

We chose Laines du Nord's Eco Baby, a sport weight yarn of 100% certified organic wool.  Each ball has 191 yards (175m) per 50g.

Following Carmen's lead, we chose a light color, White, as our color here so that the embroidery and spcial stitches will stand out well.

One ball will be included in each kit for the background color.

For the contrast yarn as well as for the flowers we are including small balls from the KFI Collection called Teenie Weenie Wool, each having 43 yards (40m)/ 10g of 75% wool + 25% nylon.  This yarn is also classified as sport weight.

Beads

Carmen doesn't specify the size or number of beads for this but rather just mentions them as option for the center of each flower if you so wish.

Our kits will include about 5g of size 6/0s which will give you at least 60 beads (well more than you will need).  We will select ones that would work well with the yarn colors and appropriate for flower centers.
