Quite a lovely shawl, new from Sivia Harding; I hereby welcome Sister Joan to the patterns on my must-do list.
Sivia writes: "There are three sections in this sideways-worked beaded shawlette: the lace edging, the center that widens and then narrows, and a clever tubular edge on top. Beads are placed with the crochet hook method. This design is another in the new series of crescent shaped silhouettes. I find this shape incredibly graceful to wear, something between a shawl and a wrap. The pattern contains two sizes which require one or two skeins of fingering to sport weight yarn for each size.
"Sister Joan is dedicated to my good friend Joan Deneen, late of Janesville, WI. Knitting friends are the best friends, and Joan was the best knitting friend anyone could wish for. She is sorely missed."
There are two sizes possible, with the finished measurements of the length at center back of 13 (19)"/13 (48) cm and the width from tip to tip of 59 (77)"/150 (195.5) cm.
And what do you need to make this beauty?
Figure on between 375 - 750 yards (343 - 686 m) of fingering weight yarn, and 448 (560) size 6/0 seed beads.
The photos (taken by Barbara Gundle) show the smaller size.
Browse our fingering weight section and see what you can find that appeals. I think a tone-on-tone or a solid colorway would likely be the best.
Lovely!
P.S. What we offer on this web page is the hard copy of the pattern, six pages printed out on heavy weight paper and slid into a sheet protector.
