Last week we put together a new kit for the Cat on a Roof Beanie by Joan Rowe.
This week we want to offer a different cat hat by the same amazing designer, this time a stranded design called Yin Yang Cats.

The Design
Here is what the designer writes:
Knitted in the round and featuring cats basking in the sun and cats eyeing the moon and stars, this is an easy pattern if you already know how to knit stranded colorwork and this pattern assumes that you do know how to knit stranded colorwork...
The pattern of 36 rows cannot be adjusted for height, and so the final height of the beanie is determined by the number of rows in the crown. The band is very short in order that the beanie not be too tall.
Yarn and Colorways
Our kits do not include the same yarns that Joan used for her original. You can see our kits in the inset photo on the top picture and then again below that.
What Joan suggests for this hat is:
Fingering weight yarn.
DC: (day color), NC: (night color)
Size 18” (46 cm), DC 55 yds (50 m), NC 60 yds (55 m)
Size 21” (53 cm), DC 82 yds (75 m), NC 93 yds (85 m)
Size 23” (58 cm), DC 90 yds (82 m), NC 120 yds (110 m)
Our kits consist of one skein each of:
1. Aracaucania Huasco Sock Kettle Dyes, with 439 yards (401m)/ 100 g skein consisting of 75% superwash merion + 25% nylon. The colorway is called Blacksmith, a tonal blend of blacks and charcoal, all with a slight midnight blue tinge.
2. Louisa Harding's Amitola, 80% wool + 20% silk, with 273 yards (250m) per 50g. The colorway is called Ikat and features the long color runs that Amitola is known for. The colors go from a soft cloud into a deeper and deeper blue.
3. We will also include one Teenie Weenie Wool mini-skein of 75% Wool + 25% Nylon with 44 yards/ 10 grams in the solid color of Gold. This gives you the option of adding color to the sun if you so wish as you see in the top photo on this page. :-)
