This one is a real beauty.
The Design
Here is how Lily describes this piece, which started out as a great MKAL:
Tenta Cowl is a stunning cowl with a bold textural lace pattern. Knit in 100% Cashmere yarn, this cowl is a pleasure to knit and cozy to wear...
Pattern includes charts and row by row written directions. If you would like to add beads to your cowl, instructions are included as to where to place the beads.
The Yarn
Well, Lily wrote this beauty so it could be knit in a fingering weight or a DK weight yarn, though her original (photos of this are the ones you see on this web page) was knit in 100% cashmere DK weight yarn.
Our kits will not give you the yarn nor the color that Lily used in her original. You can see what is in this kit in the inset photo on the top right-hand corner of the first picture on this page and again right below that. The other photos are there to show you the design.
Our yarn is from MadTosh and is gorgeous! :-)
1. TML + Holo is 90% superwash merino + 8% acrylic + 2% stellina and gives 420 yards (384m) per 100g skein. The stellina is soft subtle threads of varying metallic hues that add something very special to the whole.
The colorway is called Killing Me Softly and is one I wouldn't call variegated but rather a beautifully speckled piece of art -- on a cream backgound there are dots and dashes and short strethces of peach, teal, purple, and black with some gays as well.
2. TML + Glitter is the same fiber content and yardage -- the only difference I can see is that the stellina is a single glowing color matching the yarn.
This colorway is Misfortune (though it seems a very odd name for a lovely color combination) and is a tonal blend of varying teals ranging from meidum to dark. Rich, velvety, and rather elegant.
The Beads
The beads included in your kit are size 6/0, well more than 224 which is what the largest size needs.
Lily used brightly contrasting Silver Lined Crystal beads in hers; we can add that for your kit. Alternatively, you might like beads that blend into the yarn color more. I am tending toward the idea of teal beads for both of these for one a subtle look (Misfortune) and with the other a more dramatic one (Killing Me Softly).
But hey, there are lots of bead colors that would look great! If you have a preference, let me know. Otherwise I will choose for you.
The Pattern
Note that the kit will not automatically include the pattern.
I know some knitters might already have this or prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Lily via her Ravelry web page. This is the choice that will get you a copy in your Ravelry library.
Or if you would like a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that.
We also can email the pattern to you via email. However, it is not automatic; I have to send it to you. You can expect it to be emailed right before we ship your package.
