This may very well be our most popular design to offer kits for.  It is a great knit -- fun to make and definitely fun to wear!

This yarn that will allow you to make quite a large dragon to wrap yourself in -- bringing warmth and many smiles.

The Design

By Nim Teasdale, here is what she writes about The Dragon's Tale:

The Dragon’s Tale can be a simple scarf, or a fierce protector of the neck.

It can be worked as a long, narrow crescent, or slightly deeper, or even adapted to a rectangle with a lovely wavy border along the bottom.

Or for the true dragon fans, add the head and tail sections to create your own pet dragon that will snuggle warmly round your neck and peer imperiously at strangers, or flick its tail in warning if someone gets too close..

I love it!

Nim also notes that this design uses minimal lacework - each row has a single increase and decrease in each row of the border, creating the rippling, sinuous edge. Plus it uses a very simple integrated I cord edge, formed by slipping the first three sts.

The Dragon’s Head is shaped mostly with cables, and is included in the pattern in its own PDF. You will have a choice to create a head-to-tail dragon, or simply a dragon scaled scarf (the pattern includes both).

Yarn and Colorways

This great piece was designed so it can be knit in a variety of yarn weights from heavy fingering, DK or worsted weight yarn..She gives a large range of yardage needs for it (from 200 yards to 800 yards, depending on how long you want it.

There are some intriguing scarves to be seen in the Project Pages and I thought that for this set of kits we'd try something a bit different.

The yarn we offer is from Juniper Moon Farm and is called Cirrus Rainbow. A DK weight, this is made of 100% Israeli Mako Cotton, and each ball gives 328 yards/ 100g.

As a cotton piece, this will last even through the warmer seasons as a great fashion accent.

Each ball is dyed with looooong color runs that gradually change.  Our colorway for this kit is #307 November Afternoon, and the colors include soft greens, pinks and blues.

Should make a great dragon, don't you think?

And as a special addition, we brought in some handpainted Dragon Eyes from Suncatcher Craft Eyes.  Some are 15mm, some are18mm eyes, all to be attached as safety eyes.

We also have some buttons that make for great eyes to be sewn on the finished scarf.

All of these eyes have oval pupils, perfect for dragons!

Each kit will include one pair of eyes, of either style.  If you have a real preference, let me know and I'll do my best.

Sorry but we cannot offer a choice of colors. We brought in a random offering to try out so there is just one pair per color set.

**We will be including one skein of yarn for each kit -- this will make a small-ish scarf.  So if you think you want a longer scarf, go for two kits (I'll just include one pair of eyes -- they are a gift for you and haven't been charged for).  Of course if you plan to make two and need two pairs of eyes, just let me know. :-)

The Pattern

Note that the kit will not automatically include the pattern (which is both written and charted).

I know some knitters prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Nim via her Ravelry web page. In that case, make sure the drop-down menu is set to "No Pattern Needed."

Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, then the "Pattern" drop-down menu should be set to that.

We also can email the pattern to you via email (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you as there are two parts to it, and usually do it right before I ship your kit).

Please make your selection from the drop-down menu.
