This is a big smile maker!

A fantastic (in both the literal and figurative sense of the word) design by Nim Teasdale, here is what she writes about The Dragon's Tale:

The Dragon’s Tale can be a simple scarf, or a fierce protector of the neck.

It can be worked as a long, narrow crescent, or slightly deeper, or even adapted to a rectangle with a lovely wavy border along the bottom.

Or for the true dragon fans, add the head and tail sections to create your own pet dragon that will snuggle warmly round your neck and peer imperiously at strangers, or flick its tail in warning if someone gets too close..

Isn't that marvelous? :-) And you just know that I love dragons!

Nim also notes that this design uses minimal lacework - each row has a single increase and decrease in each row of the border, creating the rippling, sinuous edge. Plus it uses a very simple integrated I cord edge, formed by slipping the first three sts.

The Dragon’s Head is shaped mostly with cables, and is included in the pattern in its own PDF. You will have a choice to create a head-to-tail dragon, or simply a dragon scaled scarf.

The pattern is both written and charted.

Designed for anything from DK to Aran weight, our kits use a gradiently-dyed DK weight yarn from Universal yarn.

Each is 65% wool + 35% acrylic, with 660 yards (604 meters) per 200g ball (yes, they are already wound for you!).

I quote here:

Gloriously saturated tones are designed to play beautifully together in each impressive “beehive” ball. Long runs of vibrant color shade from one to the next, making standout projects a snap!

I love it!

These are not the same yarns as what Nim used in her original.  You can see ours in the inset photo on the bottom righthand corner of the first photo on this page and again below that.

We brought in two lovely colorways:

1. Aries is cool hues, inlcuding violet, teal, blue and lilac.

2. Cruise is vibrant with rich tones including yellow, orange, wine, turquoise, blue and purple.

Perfect to dress up the holidays and for year round too.

One is enough to duplicate Nim's original piece that you see here. Please note that if you would like to significantly increase the size, either width-wise or length-wise, the pattern will allow it.

We thought this would be a wonderfully quick knit in DK weight yarn, a true change of pace. And indeed, it looks like quite a substantial scarf as knit, nestled on the neck protectively, don't you agree?

And as a special addition, we will be including two special eyes.

Your kit will include either handpainted Dragon Eyes from Suncatcher Craft Eyes that are in the form of "safety eyes" with posts that snap into a backing washer.

Or some eyes n the form of buttons that would be sewn onto the finished scarf.

All of these eyes have oval pupils, perfect for dragons!

Each kit will include one pair of eyes, of either style.  If you have a real preference, let me know and I'll do my best.

Sorry but we cannot offer a choice of colors. We brought in a random offering to try out so there is just one pair per color set.

Note also that the kit will not automatically include the pattern.

I know some knitters prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Nim via her Ravelry web page. In that case, make sure the drop-down menu is set to "No Pattern Needed."  This is actually what we would recommend as this way the pattern is saved for you in your Ravelry library and you will also automatically get any needed updates.

Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, then the "Pattern" drop-down menu should be set to that.

We also can email the pattern to you via email (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you as there are two parts to it.  You can expect it to be sent to you right before I ship your kit).
