Another beauty by Marin Melchior, X-Wing is a play on short-rows that looks far more complex than it really is to knit.

Please be sure to get your pattern from the designer on her Ravelry page here We have put together kits for you to create this with.

The Design

Here is what Marin writes;

This is designed as a scarf, but you could sew the ends and make a cowl or do whatever pleases you and works with the yarns you have and or use.

I designed it to use only one skein of each colorway needed. You could also make it longer buy purchasing/using more yarn.

It would also make a great ‘dresser scarf” or decorative, interior piece, in cotton or linen… many possibilities…

The Yarn and Colorways

We have changed somewhat the yarns and also the colors that Marin used in her original.  We decribe your kits below and show photos in the inset picture on the first photo on this page and again below that.

The Uneek Fingering yarn from Urth is what Marin used as her main color. This is a hand-dyed self-striping extrafine merino with 435 yards/ 100g. The yarn changes colors gradually to give the look you see here.

 We also have a Uneek Fingering as our main colorway.

CC: For the Contrast Color (CC) Marin used an almost-solid in varying tones of mushroom gray. She writes that all one needs is a solid or almost-solid colorway -- she used only 47g or 205 yards to complete her scarf.

Kit A:

MC:  The Uneek Fingering is colorway #3031, a beautiful melody of mostly blues from turquoise to royal, along with some gray and black.    One skein per kit.

CC:  This is from Sweet Georgia, their Tough Love Sock with 80% superwash merino + 20% nylon and having 425 yards/ 100g.  The colorway is Snowfall, a light gray (lighter than the sparse grays that are part of the Uneek yarn colorway) that has a lovely luminescence.

This is the color that will be outlining the color spaces.

Kit B:

MC: Uneek Fingering #3028, a beautiful blend of neutrals including gray, charcoal, brown, gold, navy, and ecru.

CC: Malabrigo Sock Yarn with 440 yards/ 100g of 100% superwash merino in the simple colorway Black.  Perfect for outlining drama.
