We are thrilled to have access to some of the patterns of Sivia Harding. A very talented designer, Sivia incorporates beads in many of her designs, often adding them using the crochet hook method, where the beads are added as they are needed with no need to pre-thread.

This pattern actually uses two ways of adding beads to the scarf, one requiring pre-threading and one not. Both are fun. Both are very well explained.

This lovely scarf is an easy to wear and dramatic accessory. Dropped stitch technique gives “wings” wonderful drape. Beading on scarf edges and center neck section is easy and fun.

Sivia used as her original yarn two balls of Opal or Opal-Color by Lang (155m/ 50 g) (58% nylon, 42% viscose). I queried her on this as this isn't a yarn I am familiar with, and she replied, "Any fine yarn can be substituted as long as it can be used doubled through a bead hole. Smooth yarns with drape work best..." So I tried out some of our yarns and have this to report:

The fingering weight yarns all work very well with size 6/0 seed beads, megatamas and 5/0 triangles. The crochet hook I used was the size 9 (available under our "Extras" category).

Our sports weight yarns can also be used with the megatamas and 5/0 triangles, using the size 12 crochet hook.

One also would need 116 beads for the cast-on edges and 300 more beads for the center neck section. Either is optional. The design is lovely with beads or without. The beads could be a color to match or to contrast, individual choice.

So, basically, this gorgeous scarf can be made with a huge array of yarns and beads with very happy results. Make your choices and have a lovely lovely time.
