This is such a wonderfully fun pattern to knit, we just had to offer the kits again.
****
Here we present one of the earlier "thingies" designed by Mindy Ross.
I love it.
Unique, fun, and really lovely, this piece is not a long knit but very satisfying indeed.
Our kit uses a different yarn than what Mindy used for her originals --- a great gradiently dyed yarn of delicious wool/silk blend. What we have for these kits can be seen in the inset photos on the top picture and again right below that. The rest are there to show you the design.

The Design
Here is how Mindy describes it:
This Flirty Little “NUMBER” doesn’t leave conversation dangling for long, if at all! Quite the eye catcher and ‘CONVERSATION’ starter! This cute little Crescent Shaped Shawl/scarf/kerchief adds dimension with any outfit...
A quick knit, using ‘Telephone Time’ or ANY time, while listening to the latest stories from friends near & far! It’s even great for TV Time.
The Yarn
What we offer for this kit is your choice of one of three colorways of Freia Ombré Fingering Weight in a delightful merino/silk blend. The yarn has been dyed in very looooooooooong color stretches that gradually blend one into the next.
Each cake (yes, the yarn is already wound for you and ready to be knit) is 70% merino/ 30% silk and has 330 yards (301m) to its 2.64 ounces (75 grams).
One skein will make the smaller size (needs 246 yards). The large size requires 300 yards, also possible with one kit.
If you would like to make the extra large size you would need close to 480 yards. The easiest way to do this is to simply order two kits.
That will give you the yardage and beads you would need. Most of Mindy's multi-color pieces, as shown in the photos here, were knit using Wolle's Color Changing Cotton, a 100 gram skein to make the extra large size.
The smaller size will give you a finished piece of about 68" x 13", in a crescent shape with an off-center point. The larger version, again crescent shape, is approximately 84" x 16.5" at the off-center point.
Our yarn photo shows two cakes for a colorway --- it is simply to help you visualize the whole better. This kit will automatically include one cake (skein).
The Colorway
Water Lilies is based roughly on Claude Monet's gorgeous canvas studies of waterlilies. Depending on how the ball is wound it runs from a soft lilac into a deeper purple into charcoal and then a softer medium gray (or vice versa).
So each kit offered here consists of one skein (already wound into a cake) of yarn, about 330yards.
The Beads
The scarf's edges are adorned with 6/0 beads --- approximately 400-750 beads, your choice of how many to add -- and bear in mind that beadless also gives a great look.
Each of our kits will automatically include at least 400 beads. Contact me if you want more and we'll work that out with you.
The beads might be of a color to give a rich contrast with the yarn or they might be of a color to blend in more. If you have a preference, let me know. Otherwise I will choose for you.
The Pattern
Mindy describes this as a project for the Intermediate Knitter, or anyone who loves a little glitz. It contains both written Instruction & a basic start-up chart for the body section. The eyelet section is both written and charted.
The beading (optional) is done using the crochet hook method, where beads are added as you get to each stitch you'd like to adorn. There is a tutorial included in the pattern. Bear in mind you will need a tool to add the beads, either a very thin crochet hook or something like our Verna-X Beadle Needle. These are not included in the kit.
Note also that the kit will not automatically include the pattern. I know some knitters prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Mindy via her Ravelry web page.
Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that.
We also can set you up with a pdf of the pattern, saved on the EarthFaire site.
Make sure that the menu is set as you would like before you check out.
A strikingly different bit of knitting -- tremendous fun and quick to complete. A project to cherish!
